Are you feeling angry, sad, or helpless about recent events?

Are you feeling angry, sad, or helpless about recent events?

If what’s unfolding in the US (and around the world) is weighing on you, I want you to know, you’re not alone. Millions of people are feeling the same way.

The division we’re feeling largely comes from where we get our information. Every source carries its own lens and bias.

But, I want to lovingly point out that what we focus on expands. When we repeatedly consume politically charged or violent content, not only do our nervous systems stay in a constant state of fight-or-flight, but we’re actually adding to what we don’t want.

You’re probably asking yourself what you can do – and how can you possibly stay positive without turning a blind eye to what’s going on. I get it and I have some tips for you.

Here’s what I recommend to help with the shift:

  • Be very selective about where you get your information. Much of what’s circulating is designed to provoke fear and division rather than convey truth. If a headline shocks or upsets you, take a moment to do a little research. The truth often lies somewhere in the middle. I encourage you not to go down the worry rabbit hole.
  • Hold a vision of unity. As I’ve said many times, there is great power in collective consciousness, as we’re witnessing with the Buddhist Monks walking thousands of miles for peace. They’ll complete their journey in D.C. around mid February 2026.
  • Express kindness and joy to those around you. That matters more than you might realize. Be the change you want to see in the world and you amplify that energy. You’re not just helping others by doing this – you’re helping yourself as well.
  • Put your energy on the shift you want to see. If you feel compelled to march for peace, sign petitions, etc., I encourage you to put your energy on the change you want to see versus what your pushing against. As Abraham Hicks says: “You can’t push against something without becoming part of it.”

For your own mental health, here’s what I suggest:

  • Give yourself permission to reduce or stop consuming the news. Each reel, headline, or comment thread pulls us further into the brain, and away from the heart, which is the space where connection, clarity, and compassion live.
  • Consider deleting social media from your phone so you’re less tempted to check it, especially at night when your mind is more likely to spin out over things that are out of your control. I recommend this even more emphatically if you’re an empath like me and can feel the emotions of others. (I deleted social from my phone and it’s made such a difference for me!)
  • Prioritize your emotional well-being. You don’t reduce suffering by drowning in it. You reduce it by embodying the energy you want more of – like peace and unity. Anger in the world is reactive energy, and fighting against what you don’t like only perpetuates that frequency. While compassion for what’s happening is natural, staying in a low emotional state doesn’t help you – or anyone for that matter.
  • Choose thoughts, environments, or activities that help you feel calm, neutral, or uplifted. This is a good time to move inward, strengthen your sense of sovereignty, live more fully in the present moment, and connect with people who lift you up. (I’m making a conscious decision to cut back on things that don’t fuel my soul.)

I would like to note that fear and confusion are some of the oldest tools of control. But division and fear only work if we participate.

Here’s the deeper truth I keep coming back to that’s helping me cope: Humanity is moving through a massive awakening, and big truths are coming to light. What we’re witnessing is the shedding of old systems, beliefs, and structures that no longer align with the more loving, conscious way of living we’re moving toward, so they are breaking down.

It’s going to feel uncomfortable for a while because the old world is collapsing – but something better is being born. Rapid endings and new beginnings are part of that process. When we spend long periods in fear, outrage, or despair, it can become harder to notice the shifts happening within and around us.

Imagine a world:
Where integrity, kindness, and compassion matter.
Where differences don’t lead to outrage.
Where humanity remembers that we are ALL connected.

That is the world I want to live in, and one I truly believe we are steadily (and slowly) moving toward, even as we continue to navigate real challenges and conflicts along the way.

It’s normal to feel deeply right now. Just try not to live there. Do your best to come back to your heart, to the present moment, and to what lights you up.

From that place, you can elevate yourself and others.

Your focus is your superpower.
